Fans gather to watch the opening ceremony of the 2014 World Cup. The stadium in Sao Paolo is home to Corinthians and is usually called the ‘Arena Corinthians’. However during each World Cup FIFA take control of all stadiums and operations so it known as the ‘Arena de Sao Paulo’ for the duration of the tournament.

The hosts Brazil opened the competition with a 3-1 over Croatia to get their campaign off to a winning start. No host nation has ever lost their opening game, and six previous hosts have gone on to win the tournament outright.
