This is an illustration of the footballing legend Andrea Pirlo created by the artist Robin Gundersen.
Italy’s exit in the group stages of the World Cup meant the end of an era. Pirlo, or “the professor”, made his final appearance at a World Cup aged 35. Having represented Italy at three World Cups and three European Championships he will be sorely missed from the world stage. He has announced that he is willing to continue with the Italian team for the time being but it is only a short term thing and we will not see him at another international tournament.
A master with the ball, rarely breaking into stride he played the game like few others could.
