A mixture of emotions for Scottish teams in Europe…
Aberdeen and St.Johnstone were in action last night trying to get through their individual ties in the Europa League first qualifying round with both sides hopeful of progression. With Aberdeen taking a 1-1 draw away in Skopje back to Pittodrie they had an away goal to use as leverage and it was a case of job done for Derek McInnes and his men. A 0-0 was enough to see them progress but it needed some last ditch defending and wonderful goalkeeping to set up a tie against Croatian side HNK Rijeka in the next round.
In Perth, St.Johnstone also had a tricky time of it and despite doing enough to win on the night they managed somehow to allow a team down ten men to score a decisive away goal. That mean Alashkert of Armenia, a side ranked 446th in Europe progressed instead of St.Johnstone.
